Battling Corruption and Reintroducing Accountability: Strengthening and Repairing the Guardrails, with three people who work on this full time: Scott Greytak of Transparency International U.S., Omar Noureldin of Common Cause, and Daniel Weiner of the Brennan Center for Justice. Between them they have sued to stop a $1.776 billion fund, moved a bipartisan anti-bribery bill through Congress, and spent two years cataloguing which protections were real law and which were only tradition.
David Becker, Founder and Executive Director of the nonpartisan Center for Election Innovation & Research (CEIR), supports a largely unseen network of professional election officials — Republicans, Democrats, and independents — who administer elections in thousands of jurisdictions across the country. David will take us inside this increasingly consequential but little-understood world: what is working in American elections, where the system is genuinely vulnerable, and what those closest to it are worried about as November approaches. Most importantly, he will talk about what is at stake — and what those of us outside the election system can do to help protect the people and institutions on which our democracy depends.
